El Libro y Su Mundo - Books in Spanish

El internet es una gran herramienta de trabajo para los autores y editoriales a la hora de promocionar sus libros. Anteriormente comentábamos como promocionar su libro en las bibliotecas, tiendas, medios de comunicación y demás. Ahora le presentamos como puede hacerlo a través del internet.

Como decíamos, la labor del escritor no acaba cuando ha escrito la última página del libro ya que, en la mayoría de los casos, en él o ella, recae la gran parte de la promoción del libro. Lo bueno de esto, es que debido a la pasión por el libro y su profundo conocimiento, el autor es la persona más idónea para llevar ésto a cabo.

Yesterday saw the launch of the collaborative platform for the Spanish language Wikilengua.org. It aims to help the more than 400 million Spanish-speakers in the world. It is intended to advise and inform readers about the language and takes the information from dictionaries, reference works, books and readers input.

What is great about the Wikilengua.org is that users can present words, idioms and grammatical rules from all over the world, not just those that appear on RAE (the Royal Academy of the Spanish Language). Since the soft launch last August, it already has over 5,000 subscribed readers and yesterday added 1,500 more. Together they could collaborate and form a great tool for everyone looking for answer about the language. This is a great tool for libraries as well. While still in its infancy, it could prove to be a formidable resource to understand the different idioms used all over the world.

From everyone here at SBD we would like to say thank you for a wonderful 2007 and wish you all an even better 2008.

You have made this past year the best ever for us. We have surpassed most of our records in terms of sales, volumes shipped, inventory turnover, new customers, and sales through our website, which has also enjoyed unprecedented growth not seen since the early years of the internet in 1994. The last few months of the year have been specially blessed for us as several of the titles we have chosen to carry have proved very popular for the libraries, and other customers as well.

¿Quiere poner su propio negocio y ahorrarse los primeros $18,000? Siga leyendo.

Hace unos días la organización Act for Libraries publicó un informe titulado Worth Their Weight (traducido más o menos a “Valen su Peso en Oro”) que trata sobre las valoraciones que diversos estudios dan a las bibliotecas públicas. En estos estudios vemos los beneficios monetarios que tienen las bibliotecas, tanto directos como indirectos. La mayoría están enfocados desde un punto de vista macro-económico y tienen en cuenta principalmente el impacto que los fondos de los impuestos o bonos tienen en la población. Al buen entendedor, pocas palabras (Capítulo XXXVII)

Desde hace tiempo queríamos empezar una serie de artículos sobre el Quijote. Esta obra maestra de la literatura española es uno de los primeros libros que recomendamos para los Grupos de Lectura. A pesar de ser un libro voluminoso y de difícil lectura, sigue siendo uno de los mejores libros escritos, del que se puede sacar mucho provecho en casi todos los aspectos de la vida diaria.

Welcome to our first post. Since it is the beginning of our journey together, we just want to say thank you for your support during all these years. Without our customers and friends of books in Spanish language we wouldn’t be here after 18 years. I guess that you could say that we’ve come of age. As you can imagine we’ve learnt a few things over these past years, and all of that has made it possible for us to have this blog and be able to communicate in yet another form with all of you.

We’ll try to answer the most common questions in the next few months and give you our take on the industry and the world of books. And please bear with us if we sometimes go off the beaten path and bring you topics that do not seem related to our industry. We may just need to vent a bit, or have thought that it may be of your interest, or interesting to your patrons. And as always, keep letting us know if you like what we offer you, and most importantly, if you don’t like it. By now you know that we have an open mind and your comments are always welcomed.

In the next few weeks, you’ll see different postings by members of our staff. Each will have their own voice and we hope that you like them all. We’ll see you soon.
